Officer Jared Balan from Delaware State Police Troop 3, visited our senior living community to speak with our residents about crimes happening not only in our state, but across the nation, against seniors. We learned that many crimes that seniors fall victim to are committed by a family member or someone they know. Officer Balan did an amazing job explaining why seniors are such a vulnerable population and why most of the actions taken against seniors are not initially recognized as crimes. Following the presentation, residents enjoyed being able to ask questions and hear stories about real situations that have happened here in our state. From topics to financial exploitation to identity theft and other types of physical and non-physical elder abuse, the seniors at The Atrium Independent Senior Living Community are now more aware of what signs to look for if they think they are being taken advantage of and how to report these things or get help.
The residents and staff would like to sincerely thank the Delaware State Police and Officer Jared Balan for sharing such valuable information and resources with the seniors in our community.
